Chapter 127 Back up Mission
Jett stepped into his room and instinctively scanned it, checking to see if Freya was inside. Finding the space empty, he let out a breath and stretched his arms. [Checkpoint], he mentally activated, and in the blink of an eye, the world around him blurred.
The next moment, Jett found himself standing underground again, at the familiar cross-section where he and the others had initially fallen into the maze. The dim, eerie atmosphere was exactly as he remembered it: silent and foreboding, with a faint scent of damp stone filling the air. He inspected the four pathways branching off from the central point, each marked with a different symbol.
"Skull face, skull face..." he muttered to himself, studying each path in turn until his eyes landed on the one he was searching for. A wicked grin spread across his face. "This one."
Without hesitation, Jett strode down the corridor marked by the skull symbol. His boots echoed lightly against the stone floor as the path seemed to stretch on for what felt like ages, the shadows growing thicker with each step. Something fun better be waiting for me at the end, he thought, his mind always eager for a challenge.
After a long trek, the narrow passage widened into a larger chamber, and there, in front of him, stood an old, rusted iron door. Its surface was engraved with ancient, barely visible runes, and it creaked ominously as Jett pushed it open.
The moment he stepped inside, the air shifted.
The ground beneath him trembled, and the door slammed shut behind him with a deafening boom. Jett barely flinched, his eyes already scanning the chamber for threats. Before he could take another step, the floor around him lit up with bright blue glyphs, ancient magic springing to life.
"Here we go." Jett smirked as the glyphs hummed louder, creating an intricate web of runes that extended up the walls and ceiling.
Suddenly, a loud crack resounded through the room, and from the walls, hulking stone golems began to emerge. These were not just ordinary constructs: each was imbued with dark attribute, their eyes glowing with malevolent light. Their massive forms towered over Jett, and their stone fists could easily crush a normal adventurer.
For a moment, Jett admired them. "Well, this would be a nightmare for anyone else."
The first golem lunged at him, swinging its gigantic arm with enough force to turn boulders to dust. But Jett moved effortlessly, a blur of motion as he sidestepped the attack with barely an inch to spare. His movements were smooth, almost lazy, as he surveyed the golems.
Another golem charged at him, aiming a crushing blow straight for his head. Jett's smirk widened, and in a flash, he activated [Loved by Fire and Ice], [Fire Dash], his body igniting in flames as he shot forward like a comet, weaving between the golems at lightning speed.
"Thanks to those crazy gods all my skills and spells that use fire or ice got a boost. Alright, playtime's over."
He imbued his sword in aura, it's edge shimmering dangerously in the dim light. Without a moment's pause, Jett spun and slashed at the nearest golem, the aura imbued blade cutting through the stone like it was made of paper. The massive creature groaned as cracks spread through its body, and with a final, resounding crash, it shattered into rubble.
The other golems roared, their lumbering forms closing in on him from all sides. But Jett was already one step ahead. He raised his hand and activated {Water Torrent}, sending a powerful spiral of water crashing into two of the golems. The force of the spell eroded their bodies, grinding them down with relentless precision until they crumbled to the floor.
"Only two left," Jett muttered, his eyes glinting with excitement.
The last two golems tried to pin him in from both sides, their massive fists ready to pummel him into the ground. But Jett was faster. With a snap of his fingers, he activated [Dark Mirage], splitting into several shadowy clones. The golems, confused and unable to tell which Jett was real, swung wildly at the illusions.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Jett reappeared behind the last golem and plunged his dark blade into its back. The creature let out a low, rumbling groan before disintegrating into dust.
As the final golem turned, Jett unleashed [Flame Arc], a wide, sweeping strike of fire that sliced cleanly through its torso. The golem froze for a second, then collapsed in two halves.
The chamber fell silent, the once imposing constructs now reduced to piles of stone and dust. Jett looked around at the destruction he'd caused, his smirk still firmly in place.
"And they thought this would be difficult?" he chuckled, wiping his hands clean. "Too easy."
But just as he was about to leave, the glyphs on the floor glowed once more, revealing a hidden compartment in the center of the room. From it, a mysterious chest rose, its surface marked with symbols he recognized from the maze.
"Now this looks interesting," Jett murmured, approaching the chest with a gleam in his eyes.
Jett sighed as he walked up to the mysterious chest that had emerged from the floor, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. "I was getting kinda worried that I picked the wrong path," he muttered under his breath, running his hand over the intricate symbols etched into the chest. With a casual flick of his wrist, the lock clicked open, and the lid creaked upward.
Inside lay a single, delicate flower with ten different petals, each petal a distinct color, shimmering faintly under the dim light of the chamber.
Jett grinned as he took in the sight. "Found you," he whispered, his tone triumphant. He gently closed the chest, locking the treasure away once more.
But as soon as he did, a sudden, unsettling sensation washed over him. It was the kind of creeping feeling that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, like eyes were boring into him from the shadows. His instincts screamed at him, telling him that something was watching.
He paused for a moment, scanning the room without turning his head, his fingers flexing unconsciously at his sides. But he shook the feeling off, forcing himself to stay calm. Not now.
With a subtle exhale, Jett activated [Checkpoint], and the underground chamber around him vanished in a blur of motion.
In an instant, he was back in his room, the comfort of his familiar surroundings greeting him. He carefully tiptoed toward his bed, attempting to sneak in without a sound. Almost there… he thought, hoping he could get some peace for the night.
But just as he was about to slide under the covers, a voice pierced the quiet.
"What are you doing?"
Jett froze mid-step, his heart sinking. He slowly turned around to see Freya and Ella standing in the shadows near the doorway, arms crossed, and expressions far too knowing.
Freya raised an eyebrow, her voice calm but filled with amusement. "You know, we've been watching the whole time."
Jett blinked, realizing just how long they'd been observing him. "Crap," he muttered under his breath.
