Chapter 740: Changing Tides
The frontline fight between the uprising and the DarkSky guild members was a sight to behold.
In terms of overall levels and proficiency, The DarkSky guild members were about 10-20% higher levelled compared to their Uprising peers and their skills were of a superior grade too.
With the global level average being around 320, this gap was a difference of 30-60 levels, which was significant when viewed on a macro level.
While the average Uprising rebel was levelled 320-350, right around the global average or only slightly better, the average DarkSky guild member was levelled around 350-380, significantly ahead of the global curve.
To add to the situation, most within the DarkSky guild, only practised skills of the (Epic) rank or higher and seemed to carry weapons and armour of (Gold) grade or higher.
This was much better than their rebel counterparts who often foraged and looted what they could find from corpses and roamed around in mis-matched sets of the best gear they could find, instead of a uniform set.
However, despite these differences, the two sides were more or less evenly matched in battle today, solely because of the -35% debuff applied on the righteous faction players which was like the great equalizer.
The debuff forced the DarkSky guild members to sweat in action against opponents that were not really on their level, as they were beaten back for strength and pace, making openings in defence hard to come by.
Just like the demons, the rebels also fought with raw aggression rather than discipline and strategy, as they weren’t a highly organized force capable of executing intricate maneuvers, but were instead a rag-tag group of misfits that relied on sheer determination and relentless energy to win. This made fighting against them feel like a constant challenge, as there was no breathing room given for even a second, with every exchange of moves being a potential life/death scenario.
However, if one could stay disciplined under the relentless pressure, not opening up defence and holding the battle lines tight then the rebel threat was easy to neutralize.
Apart from raw aggression and equal numbers, the rebels did not have much else going for them, while the DarkSky soldiers had the advantage of ‘Experience’ behind them.
Having fought and held off demons at the borders several times, the DarkSky members were now comfortable entrusting their backs to one another in battle, fighting as a unit instead of individuals, which made their overall defence much more robust.
In war, battle line shapes and tactics played a huge part in how effective a group was as a unit, and this was where the battle scales tipped in the favor of the DarkSky.
While the rebels fought solo, the DarkSky fought as one, and slowly their defensive resilience turned to offensive brilliance, as once the shape of the rebels frontline became irregular, gaps opened up for the DarkSky guild to overwhelm individual rebels two versus one, changing the whole momentum of the battle.
Slowly but surely, the evenly matched dynamic broke into an outmatched dynamic, as despite having a 35% debuff, the DarkSky guild members began overwhelming the rebels through sheer brilliance of tactics.
“Duhan! Don’t charge too far, you’re breaking our shape, pull back”
“Dorothy! Don’t become too aggressive, let the wounded run back, don’t chase”
“Jake! What the fuck are you even doing, hold back your unit!”
Tor shouted, as he oversaw the unfolding battle and controlled his men to hold steady.
Lysa too did the same on her end, as although she was a battle mage capable of wreaking AOE havoc, for now she focused on troops management, seldom casting spells and mostly remaining focused on the overall battle-shape, ensuring that none of her men strayed too far.
As the hours passed, the Uprising was slowly but surely decimated, to the point where three hours later they only had a tenth of their force left.
“Retreat! We are being picked apart for fun now…. Uprising members retreat!” The uprising commander yelled, as finally when the situation became unmanageable, he ordered a retreat to save the levels of as many of his men as he could.
This of-course left the WhiteSaber guild troops behind them vulnerable to a counter-charge, as unfortunately for them, even after hours of bantering the Bernabeu City walls with projectiles, they could still not destroy a section completely.
There were areas where they destroyed a significant portion off the top, or where a 50% section was broken off, however, even in such areas, the intact wall height was still 10-15 meters tall, making it impossible for an army to charge through.
They needed more time to blast open a clear opening, however, with the Uprising guild members facing an unexpected defeat, their remaining options looked feeble.
“Guildmaster, the uprising members have started to retreat… What do we do now? This is beyond our expectations–” A panicked guild member asked the WhiteSaber guildmaster, who watched the unfolding war with sweat pouring down his brows.
“Prepare for battle–” he said stoically, However his heart was already clouded with the grim thoughts of defeat.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
This situation was not ideal, however, with things not going their way, this was all they had.

(Meanwhile Cervantez)
“Guildmaster, the Uprising have started to scramble and retreat, the comments by the live watchers on the forums are overwhelmingly positive.
They are calling us ‘The Last Hope of the righteous faction’ and lauding us for holding strong despite the debuff.
Our impression as the number one guild is solidifying in public minds…. Everything is going exactly as you hoped for” A guild member informed Cervantez, who smiled happily at this news.
Everything so far was going exactly how he anticipated it to go, and currently he seemed on-track to win this war.
“Good…. Keep up the pressure now” Cervantez said stoically, as he did not allow himself to celebrate the victory so early, however, internally, he was beyond exhilarated at this moment, just like every other DarkSky member.
