Solo Dungeon Streamer-I Am Overpowered

Chapter 153: Into the Unknown

After regrouping at the basin, the atmosphere felt heavier than before, like the island itself was aware of our survival and displeased by it. The mist that had thinned after the vortex consumed the creature began to thicken again, swirling around us as we prepared to move on. The crystal's pulse was faint but insistent, its glow pointing us toward another hidden waypoint deeper within the forest.

Raijuu took the lead, his movements deliberate and cautious as he sniffed the air. Kijin trailed close behind, her hands glowing faintly as she kept her barrier spell on standby. Tenko stayed near me, her camera capturing the shifting shadows and eerie beauty of the trail ahead. None of us spoke for a while, the quiet punctuated only by the crunch of leaves underfoot and the occasional drip of water from the trees above.

The chat's usual antics broke the silence, their messages pinging against my wrist display:

: Why does the island feel like it's giving you the silent treatment?

: Kijin looks done. Someone get her a vacation.

: Raijuu's leading because he's the only one the island doesn't hate.

"I see the chat's in peak form today," I muttered, earning a sharp glance from Kijin.

"They're not wrong," she said. "This place feels off. It's like the quiet before a storm."

"Or before Tsukasa inevitably touches something he shouldn't," the chat chimed in.

: Can't wait for him to 'accidentally' trigger another boss.

: Kijin deserves hazard pay for putting up with this.

: Raijuu's leading the team while Tsukasa carries the plot device. Classic.

Ignoring the trolling, I focused on the crystal. Its glow was steady but dim, as though conserving its energy. Whatever connection it had to the island's network, it was clear that we hadn't seen the worst of what lay ahead.

The trail narrowed as we descended into a deep ravine, the air growing cooler with each step. The trees above formed an almost impenetrable canopy, blocking out what little light remained. The faint sound of running water echoed through the ravine, guiding us toward a small stream that cut through the rocks like a silver ribbon.

Raijuu stopped suddenly, his ears twitching as he sniffed the air. His low growl set us all on edge.

"What is it?" I asked, gripping the crystal tightly.

Kijin stepped forward, her barrier materializing with a soft hum. "Trouble," she said, her eyes scanning the shadows. "And it's close."

The chat's warnings came in quick succession:

: Raijuu's growling. That's never a good sign.

: Kijin's barrier's up. You know what that means—incoming fight!

: Tsukasa, do literally anything useful for once.

The rustling in the underbrush grew louder, and a moment later, a swarm of small, glowing creatures burst out of the shadows. They looked like oversized insects, their translucent wings shimmering with an iridescent glow. Their bodies pulsed faintly, emitting bursts of light that flickered erratically.

"Lumivores," Tenko said, her voice calm but firm. "They feed on energy sources, including magical ones."

"Perfect," Kijin muttered, her barrier flaring brighter as the creatures swarmed around her. "Guess who's on the menu today?"

The lumivores slammed into her barrier, their glowing bodies sparking as they tried to penetrate it. Raijuu leapt into the fray, his claws swiping through the swarm with brutal efficiency. Tenko stood back, her camera trained on the action as she analyzed their behavior.

"They're coordinated," she said. "Their movements aren't random—they're targeting the barrier directly."

: The bugs are smarter than Tsukasa. Let that sink in.

: Kijin's doing all the work again. What else is new?

: Raijuu's MVP as usual. Tsukasa's still holding his flashlight.

I ignored the chat's jabs and focused the crystal's energy. Its glow intensified as I directed a pulse of light toward the swarm. The lumivores reacted instantly, their bodies trembling as the light disrupted their coordination. They scattered briefly before regrouping, their movements more erratic.

"They don't like the crystal," I said, stepping closer to Kijin. "If we keep it active, it might destabilize them."

"Then hurry up!" she snapped, her voice strained as more lumivores battered her barrier. "I'm not a buffet!"

Channeling the crystal's energy, I released another pulse of light. This time, the effect was stronger. The lumivores shrieked—a high-pitched, grating sound—and began to dissolve, their glowing bodies disintegrating into tiny motes of light that vanished into the mist.

Raijuu finished off the last of the swarm with a vicious swipe of his claws, his growls subsiding as the threat dissipated. Kijin dropped her barrier, her hands shaking slightly as she let out a sigh of relief.

"Next time," she said, glaring at me, "try to figure that out before I become bug food."

The chat wasted no time piling on:

: Kijin carried again. Tsukasa just stood there like a decorative lamp.

: Raijuu deserves a steak for that performance. Tsukasa deserves... nothing.

: Tenko's camera work was more impressive than Tsukasa's contribution.

"We're alive, aren't we?" I shot back, though I couldn't hide the irritation in my voice.

"Barely," Kijin muttered. "Let's move before something worse shows up."

The trail leveled out as we left the ravine, the mist thinning slightly as the trees grew sparser. The crystal's pulse remained steady, guiding us toward a clearing up ahead. In the center of the clearing stood a massive stone pedestal, its surface covered in glyphs similar to those on the platform and archway.

"This is it," I said, approaching the pedestal cautiously. The crystal's light brightened, syncing with the glyphs as I held it close. "Another waypoint."

The chat lit up with excitement:

: New relic unlocked! What's it gonna do this time?

: Place your bets: trap, guardian, or another vortex?

: Tsukasa, maybe don't touch it immediately. For once.

The pedestal began to hum softly, its glyphs glowing brighter as the crystal's energy flowed into it. The ground beneath us trembled, and a faint beam of light shot upward from the pedestal, piercing the canopy above. The energy felt different this time—less hostile, more inviting.

Tenko adjusted her camera, her voice tinged with curiosity. "This isn't like the previous waypoints. It feels... purposeful."

The glyphs shifted, forming a map-like pattern that spread across the pedestal's surface. The crystal's glow intensified, highlighting a specific point on the map—a location deep within the heart of the island.

"That's where we're going next," I said, studying the map. "The crystal's guiding us."

Kijin crossed her arms, her expression skeptical. "And what are the odds something's waiting for us there? Something bigger than bugs or stone monsters?"

"High," I admitted. "But if this island wants to test us, we'll pass."

The chat wasn't so optimistic:

: 'We'll pass,' he says. Famous last words.

: Tsukasa's optimism is the real plot twist here.

: Kijin's already mentally preparing for the next fight. Raijuu's just tired.
