Chapter 68: Is Abigail getting engaged to Clark Stone?
Mid-May marked the early signs of summer in Gills City.
The Piers’ Mansion, which resembled a garden, was brimming with life everywhere. Pink roses were blooming all over, the lotus leaves in the pond downstairs had already emerged, tender and fresh, while the banana plants on one side stood taller than a person, perfect for providing cool shade.
Abigail liked to sit on the second-floor balcony whenever she had nothing to do, rocking the cradle with one hand and enjoying the sun.
Clark Stone had unexpectedly not troubled her since that day.
Abigail passed the next half-month peacefully while little Teddy celebrated his thirty-ninth day in this world.
Elder Piers checked the old Almanac and noted that today was a good day to celebrate little Teddy’s one-month milestone.
For the child’s protection, it was more of a family dinner than a full-fledged banquet.
The servants downstairs had already started preparing, and even Kelly had gone to help, leaving Abigail as the only idle person in the mansion since she was looking after the baby.
Feeling utterly bored, Abigail dozed off in her chair along with the baby in the cradle.
Until a familiar voice woke her up.
“Did you hit Master Stone?” Lincoln Green looked at Abigail, who was sitting in the chair, a bit displeased at being woken up, and questioned her as soon as he came in.
Teddy had been restless at night these past few days, causing her to lack sleep. For a moment, she couldn’t remember who Master Stone was, staring blankly at Lincoln Green, who was there to demand an explanation.
Did her father have a problem with his intelligence?
Glancing at Teddy, who wasn’t disturbed, Abigail’s mind finally cleared a bit, and her sleepiness faded. “Keep your voice down. Don’t wake the child. This is the Piers’ Mansion, not the Green’s villa.”
“You…” Lincoln Green was both angry and annoyed at his daughter’s indifferent attitude. “I already took leave from Elder Piers for you. You’re coming with me to the Stone’s to apologize tomorrow.”
“Apologize?” Abigail thought she had misheard and realized that Master Stone was Clark Stone.
So, he had been waiting for this.
It turned out he had gone complaining to Lincoln Green.
“What? Don’t dare to admit it!” Lincoln Green had planned to come and confront her the day he saw Clark Stone’s injuries, but Ruby had dissuaded him. He took the chance to come during George Piers’ one-month celebration.
Abigail looked at Lincoln amusingly and asked, “Aren’t you going to ask why I hit him? What if he deserved it?”
“Clark is a child I watched grow up. Don’t I know his character? Ruby even wanted to hide it for you. I think you’ve become more and more disobedient.” After Aunt Claudia’s incident, Lincoln harbored deep grievances against Abigail.
Hearing this, Abigail knew it was Rose and her daughter up to their old tricks again. Hiding it for her? Only someone as naive as Lincoln would believe that.
A dignified entrepreneur being toyed with by a pair of mother and daughter. It was hard to believe he wasn’t bewitched.
“Treat me as disobedient, then.” Abigail didn’t want to argue with Lincoln and closed her eyes to feign sleep.
Lincoln was fuming. “You really have no respect for your elders. I’m telling you, Abigail, as long as you are my daughter, you have to listen to me. Tomorrow, you will go apologize to Master Stone. I will come to pick you up myself. Also, next month, you will get engaged with Ruby.”
After saying that, Lincoln furiously stormed downstairs.
Abigail slowly opened her eyes. Get engaged with Ruby next month?
What did that mean?
Thinking of Clark Stone’s words from that night, it turned out to be true.
Lincoln Green wanted her to get engaged to Clark Stone and chose the same date as Ruby and Brandon’s engagement. How anxious was he!
After that incident, Abigail was very clear that Clark Stone would not want to get engaged out of affection. It must be because of interests.
Abigail glanced around the vast Piers’ Mansion. It seemed they couldn’t wait to connect with the Piers.
She just wondered what role Rose and her daughter had played in this affair again!
