Chapter 365: Third Round Of Matches
In the second round, there were still a lot of…let’s say…lesser rookies.
Hence, there weren’t any meaningful matches, and everyone who was expected to advance, advanced again, this time, to the top 32.
[Congratulations! You’ve earned 10,050 points!]
’Haaah…Better than nothing…I guess…’ Shye comforted himself.

He was starting to get greedy again after earning 30,000 points per victory, forgetting how hard it was to grind points outside competitions.
Humans are inherently greedy. Shye? A bit greedier than most.
Well, he had a few important missions to fulfill, and the earlier he accomplished them, the more time he would have to live the simple life he always wanted.
One of his missions was to look for his parents, whose situations were unknown.
He didn’t even know if they were still alive.
However, he would never give up before even trying.
Such an urgent goal weighed heavily in his heart, though, causing him to act a bit too greedy sometimes in pursuit of power.
Who could blame him? They were his parents, after all.
Moving on to the third round of matches, there were finally a few spicy matchups displayed on the holographic screen suspended above the stage—visible to all corners of the arena.
Although such matchups could only be considered as mere appetizers to the battles between those in the top ten Balkrow City rookies, the matches were still way more exciting compared to the rather lackluster first and second-round matchups.
Shye didn’t know if it was intentional or not but in the third round, his match was one of the "highlight matchups" as he was matched up against the 11th-ranked Bonza Glais.
’The organizers likely intend to either assess my abilities or want me to prove myself to the crowd…’ Shye mused with a slight smile.
Though some people would feel disrespected when "told" to prove themselves, Shye was not one such person.
On the contrary, he appreciated the tough matchup as it would give him the chance to earn points.
In his mind, the organizers should just keep the tough guys coming his way!
Lin Chi, Almira White, John Bony, Arthur Miller, or whoever the f*ck it is, Shye is willing to fight them all in the name of system points!
Excited as he was, his match wasn’t the first scheduled match for the third round of matches, hence, he could only sit back and wait.
Luckily, although the first match was rather boring, the next one wasn’t as Lin Zi, also one of the top five rookies, was scheduled to fight some unknown rookie who somehow made it to the top 32.
Ascending the stage, the young man of average height, long black hair tied up in a ponytail, and sharp yet attractive facial features drew his bow, appearing extremely calm, even looking a little bit too approachable in Shye’s eyes.
However, he didn’t dare make conclusions again about someone’s character after his experience with Percy and Mateo who initially appeared likable, turning out to be utter delusional bastards in the end.
Hence, he simply watched the match unfold.
To his surprise, the match…turned out to be quite boring as Lin Zi was what one would call a "textbook archer".
His opponent, a warrior-class rookie named Kevin Johnson, tried his hardest to close the gap and attack Lin Zi.
And the guy…did manage to do so.
The problem was, that Lin Zi was just too calm and knowledgeable.
Whenever Kevin successfully closed the gap after taking a few mana arrow shots, Lin Zi stood his ground and calmly dodged the attack before creating distance again.
The same thing happened over and over.
Even when Kevin got in the prime position to use his trump card, Lin Zi calmly evaded as though no skills or attacks in the world could shake his heart.
In the end, the fight ended with Kevin looking like a porcupine with mana quills, turning into an azure ray of light.
As the poor man’s body materialized outside the stage, the young man looked extremely dejected as he had multiple chances to end the match in one hit.
Unfortunately, all of his attacks were dodged, and he didn’t know how Lin Zi managed to do it as the guy didn’t even use aggressive skills, only a few repositioning skills.
Due to this, Kevin felt that he had been so close yet so far to victory.
’Hmm…I can’t tell if this guy is just boring or if he was saving his skills for later, more important matches…’ Shye mused with narrowed eyes, following Lin Zi with his gaze.
Shockingly, the man looked back at him and smiled amiably, even nodding slightly at him before continuing to walk.
’Hoh? He sensed my…gaze? How sharp…’
…
After a few more matches, it was finally time for the highlight of the third round: Shye Crowley vs the 11th-ranked Bonza Glais.
Ascending the stage, only around a fourth of the crowd cheered for him as even though more than half of them saw his prowess in the Raven’s Blade Qualifiers, they didn’t believe he could win against Arthur Vermillion.
Heck, most of them didn’t even believe that he would make it past John Oni.
As usual, Shye did not give a single f*ck about what everyone thought.
All he cared about right now was the opportunity to make points.
He had to show off his skills!
Not only how strong his spells were but actual maneuvers that would impress the audience.
…His opponent, Bonza Glais, was a scout, hence, Shye realized that this match was some kind of a trial match to see how he would deal with tricky scout-class opponents.
Naturally, everyone was pumped.
Bonza was no slouch as he had been a part of the top ten before Shye blazed through the rankings, kicking Bonza out of his 10th spot.
The guy probably had a slight grudge judging from the look on his face.
Drawing two elemental staffs out, Shye assumed his fighting stance.
’Fine then, since everyone wants to see how I deal with scouts, I shall slap you, doubters, with the reality that I’m not all about chantless casting and oversized spells!’’
