Chapter 54 Sign a Photo with WeChat, Just For a Bite to Eat!
A young woman had just bought two servings of fried rice noodles, three cups of mung bean smoothies, two boxes of ice jelly, and one order of chicken tofu pudding from Lu Qin’s food stall. She was in a blissful mood and was just about to find a quiet spot to enjoy her feast.
Suddenly, she was pulled aside by a fashionably dressed girl. Then, something even more delightful happened. The person who stopped her was none other than Li Xue, the wildly popular young pop singer, and the biggest star at the music festival.
The Tianhong Plaza was packed with people, most of them there just to see Li Xue. This young woman, unbelievably, had run into Li Xue by chance — and it was the star who had approached her!
In an instant, the young woman was overwhelmed with joy.
“Mom, I met a celebrity!”
She was about to scream, but Li Xue quickly covered her mouth.
“Shh! Don’t make a scene,” Li Xue whispered, adjusting her sunglasses to disguise herself.
The girl stared at Li Xue, still in a daze. This sort of reaction was nothing new to Li Xue.
She gave a gentle smile and said, “Hey, girl, I snuck out and haven’t had lunch yet. Could you spare me some of your food? I’ll pay you.”
Li Xue’s manager always insisted she stick to a strict diet for her figure — lunch was usually just a plate of salad, which was practically nothing. Normally, she didn’t mind and wasn’t hungry. But today, for some reason, the aroma of fried rice noodles and stir-fried pork in the air had awakened a craving deep in her stomach. She suddenly felt faint with hunger.
“Uh?”
The young woman was taken aback.
You want my food?
She hesitated for a few seconds… It seemed like she was having an intense internal debate.
“Huh?”
Li Xue was equally puzzled. What’s there to hesitate about? Shouldn’t she be thrilled?
I mean, it’s a live celebrity! Surely, she’d be happy to share. Even if she’s not a fan, most people would nod and say yes when they recognize me.
“Well… Li Xue, what would you like? Snail noodles or roasted pork trotters? I can buy it for you!” The young woman said and hesitated again.
Even if it was Li Xue, she was reluctant to part with the food she had worked so hard to get.
Fried rice noodles? Nope, those are for dinner and a late-night snack. Ice jelly? No way, that’s dessert, and she couldn’t sleep without it. Chicken tofu pudding? Absolutely not — it was a new item she had to try, or else her rank in the Penguin chat group would drop.
There were several of Lu Qin’s girlfriend wannabes waiting to overthrow her. Mung bean smoothies? Definitely not. Lu Qin’s smoothies were limited, and three cups were just enough for her. Missing even a sip would ruin the experience.
Li Xue shook her head, she wasn’t interested in anything else. She had specifically come for the food from this popular stall. Li Xue was a discerning foodie who only indulged in truly exceptional food. From the girl’s refusal, it was clear that this food stall’s offerings must indeed be in the exceptionally delicious category. Li Xue’s craving intensified. She had to have a taste.
“I only want the food from that stall, please! Could you share some?” Li Xue asked, using a slightly pleading tone.
“Um…”
The girl smiled awkwardly.
Can’t you buy it yourself?
It was really hard for me to get my hands on this.
“I’ll sign something for you, even with a personalized message,” Li Xue offered, trying to negotiate. For the first time, her celebrity aura seemed to be failing her.
“Uh… uh…”
The young woman was still hesitant. An autograph doesn’t fill my stomach. She was a practical person.
“I’ll sign and take a photo with you — and we can take one where I even give you a shoulder massage,” Li Xue said and sweetened the deal.
“Huh?”
“Now… that I can consider…”
Li Xue was exasperated.
Is it really this difficult?
“It’s just a bite of food, why so stingy?”
“Fine, I’ll give you one serving of fried noodles, but nothing else,” the young woman finally relented.
“What are these?” Li Xue pointed.
“These? Ice jelly and chicken tofu pudding,” the girl replied.
“I want those too.”
“No way, these are limited items and really hard to get.”
“I’ll throw in a signed photo, plus add you on WeChat.”
“Alright… fine. You can have an extra box of ice jelly, but the chicken tofu pudding is off the table. It’s a new release and they only allow one per person.”
“Okay, okay,” Li Xue grumbled, flashing a hint of her cute tiger tooth.
I’m even giving her WeChat, and she’s still so reluctant? Is my WeChat worth less than a box of food?
Li Xue was now convinced that the food must be amazing. In exchange for a serving of Lu’s fried rice noodles and a box of ice jelly, Li Xue signed an autograph, took a selfie, and added the girl on WeChat. Of course, she used her secondary account and warned her in advance that due to her celebrity status, she couldn’t chat frequently, and her busy schedule meant she might only respond occasionally. The young woman left, elated.
Just as Li Xue was about to find a quiet spot to eat, her annoying manager called.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m coming back now.”
Back in the dressing room, Li Xue’s manager, Amy, was horrified to see the fried noodles and ice jelly.
“Oh my god! Fried noodles! And dessert! Eating these will undo two weeks of your weight loss efforts!”
“Stop being so dramatic! It’s just an occasional treat. Do you want me to faint on stage from low blood sugar after a lunch of nothing but salad? End up trending on tomorrow’s news?”
Amy fell silent. She couldn’t argue with that and was genuinely worried about a potential mishap.
“Fine, I’ll get you something else to eat. But not this—it’s too fattening!”
“No way, I’m eating this, or I’ll be lying flat on stage within three minutes!”
“You—”
Li Xue was done listening. There was no way she’d give up the hard-earned delicacies for whatever bland food her manager brought—dehydrated veggies or flavorless chicken and beef that she was sick of.
Tearing open the plastic bag and container, Li Xue snapped apart the disposable chopsticks and took a bite.
“Wow! Delicious!”
Her eyes lit up. She had never tasted fried rice noodles this good. The flavor and texture were absolutely top-notch!
She took several more bites, nearly biting her tongue in excitement. Now, she understood why the young girl had been so reluctant to share. The food was just too delicious to part with.
Amy’s nose twitched as the aroma filled the room. Watching Li Xue devour the noodles, she swallowed hard.
“Alright, that’s too much. You can only eat half — the noodles are way too greasy!” Amy said, snatching the container away, trying to sound stern.
“Give it back! These noodles aren’t greasy at all!” Li Xue protested.
“No way they’re not greasy. Let me taste it.” Amy grabbed the chopsticks and took a bite herself.
“Oh my god!”
The noodles were unbelievably delicious! She never imagined fried rice noodles could taste this incredible.
“That’s my lunch! Have some decency,” Li Xue said, grabbing it back and taking a few more bites before Amy wrestled it away again.
“Stop eating, Xue! You need to maintain your figure!”
“My figure is just fine. I don’t gain weight easily. Now give me back the noodles…”
The two tussled over the single serving of noodles until they broke the disposable chopsticks in the process!
Li Xue stuffed the last bite into her mouth, but still wasn’t satisfied. She glared at Amy.
“Why are you fighting me for it? If you want some, go buy it yourself.”
“After all these years, you still can’t share a serving of noodles with me? You’ve broken my heart.”
“These noodles are non-negotiable. Everything else, maybe.”
“Fine, then I’ll just try this dessert.”
Li Xue’s expression changed instantly.
“Hold on! Not that either! I’ll treat you to tiramisu instead!”
