Chapter 302 Case File Association
"Zhou Team!"
Chen Yu burst through the door with an abrupt shout.
Zhou Shengtao's expression changed instantly, he quickly threw down the laser pointer in his hand and strode out to meet him.
Everyone present let out a long sigh of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
"Xiaochen, how come you didn't say anything before you came?"
Chen Yu felt a little embarrassed, seeing the situation just now, it seemed Zhou Shengtao had been in the middle of a very important meeting.
Clearing his throat gently, he proceeded to take out several sheets of drawing paper from his person.
These were portraits he had sketched based on the video provided by Tang Xiaowei, drawn on the train.
But no matter how he drew them, the results were never unique.
Logically, there should only be one person in the video; even if the image was blurry, as a professional portrait artist, he should only produce one drawing in the end.
Yet neither Tang Xiaowei nor he could come up with a unique result.
The suspect's appearance was either too peculiar, the facial features inherently asymmetrical, which disturbed the portrait sketching, or this suspect simply had no face at all!
Zhou Shengtao took the drawings with a sigh of resignation.
He had been following this case for a long time, and based on the portraits previously provided by Tang Xiaowei, he had interrogated suspects, and yet, no results were forthcoming.
The suspects in the portraits Chen Yu had now provided had also been brought in for questioning.
"Xiaochen, this case is complicated; the other party is very cautious, and their counter-surveillance skills are particularly strong. Many times we've found clues, but each time we've been just minutes too late!"
"Now that video tape is our last lead, but we've asked several artists to sketch, and none can produce a single conclusive portrait."
Chen Yu frowned deeply, "Zhou Team, is it possible for me to see the original video?"
Without a moment's hesitation, Zhou Shengtao led Chen Yu to the archives room.
Due to recent investigations, the place had been turned upside down; many items were strewn across the desks, and even some cases from several years back had been dragged out into the mess.
Dossiers, videos, documents, all scattered about in disarray.
Zhou Shengtao plugged a video tape that was on the table directly into the playback system.
When the blurry images appeared before them, a flood of information suddenly flashed through Chen Yu's mind.
[System notification, related message]
The moment the system's voice sounded, all the materials in the archive room appeared in Chen Yu's mind.
Just as Zhou Sheng was about to speak, Chen Yu turned on his heel and began rifling through a pile of documents, soon pulling out several old case files.
The dates on these files were quite old, one of them was from a case over thirty years ago.
Chen Yu quickly searched through the dossiers and soon found a photograph.
It was a black and white photo from over thirty years ago. The person in the photo looked very young, but their face was twisted to an extreme degree.
Looking at the scars, they appeared to have been splashed with sulfuric acid, causing the facial features to distort and even damaging the bones.
Even the most skilled portrait artist wouldn't be able to recreate the original appearance under such circumstances.
Even attempting to replicate the skin over the bone structure could lead to deviations.
Chen Yu was suddenly excited, following the system's prompt, this person was the suspect Zhou Shengtao was looking for, but just as he was about to hand over the photo, he hesitated.
Everything was far too simple, and there were no connections between them.
If he directly handed over the photo, Zhou Shengtao would definitely suspect something, and he couldn't possibly expose the system, could he?
After briefly pondering in his mind, Chen Yu had a plan.
"Captain Zhou, this reminds me of a major case that occurred, where the suspect had severe facial injuries. Back then, it took dozens of portrait artists a lot of effort to draw a likeness of the person!"
Zhou Shengtao evidently believed Chen Yu's explanation, as Chen Yu had hinted more than once before that he had looked over most of the documentation here.
"You mean to say, the criminal suspect we're looking for has been disfigured!"
Chen Yu nodded, "It's possible that he has undergone a full-body transformation, maybe even altered his bones, which is why the portraits drawn have resulted in depictions of over a dozen different people."
Zhou Shengtao, too, grew excited, "How did I not think of this before! With this, the scope of our investigation is much narrower."
Just as he was getting excited, Chen Yu casually pushed the file over to him, his middle finger subtly tapping on a section of the record.
Zhou Shengtao noticed Chen Yu's gesture and subconsciously glanced at it, and the next moment he froze.
"My God! How did I forget? This case from over thirty years ago is too similar to today's!"
Zhou Shengtao exclaimed loudly and quickly took the file from Chen Yu, looking it over carefully.
"This is it, the criminal suspect is likely the same! Chen, you're really a godsend!"
Chen Yu feigned an innocent look, "Ah, could it really be such a coincidence?"
Zhou Shengtao didn't say much more, just hurriedly took the file to the conference room and spread the suspect's information on the table.
"Starting now, pull up this person's movements over the past thirty years for me."
Everyone acted without the slightest delay and immediately set about their tasks.
Chen Yu, based on the suspect's photo from over thirty years ago, sketched out the original appearance, and considering the injuries and potential cosmetic surgery, compared it against the blurry surveillance footage to produce a rough sketch.
"Captain Zhou, this is the suspect's portrait I've drawn with utmost effort, I hope it can be of help."
Zhou Shengtao, without looking, immediately ordered it to be distributed, and then a city-wide manhunt ensued.
However, according to regulations, before the suspect was captured, all personnel involved in the case were not allowed to leave unauthorised, and had to stay within their respective departments.
As an external consultant, Chen Yu was of course aware of such rules, and he made no complaints, just sitting quietly in the office waiting.
Around midnight, with a text message from Zhou Sheng on his phone, everything was settled.
Before long, several relevant personnel brought in a handsome, tall man to the department.
His facial proportions and bone structure had an almost impossible perfection, even his facial bones were different from the average person's.
Moreover, he had features of over a hundred different people, which explained why Chen Yu produced different results while drawing from the video.
Most importantly, the suspect had more than one steel pin implanted inside his body to alter his physique and height.
